DescriptionNathan William Ogden, like other artists of his generation, clearly came into his own in the mid-1960s during the rise of psychedelic culture. It is no surprise that being nearly the exact age as Rick Griffin, Ogden's work is frequently, and unavoidably compared to Griffin's. Incredibly splashy and graphically facile and imaginative, Griffin's work often overshadows Ogden's- which tends in comparison to be slower, studied and less adventuresome. However, it is also clear that in his post-psychedelic work, Ogden has successfully ventured into such art historical genres as landscape and seascape painting, genres that Griffin never seriously entertained. On View
