DescriptionThis surfboard was crafted by the analytical and meticulous shaper Bill Barnfield, who is renowned for producing classic North Shore guns during the '70s and early '80s.Notably, this board was ridden by Debbie Beacham when she clinched her world title in 1982. Debbie Beacham played a significant role in reviving women's professional surfing in 1981, leading to better equality and prize money for pro surfers. Her achievements included victories at the Mazda Women's Surf Sport Championships, the Michelob Cup, Stubbies, and Hang Ten Grand Prix events, which raised media awareness and prize money for touring pros while advancing women's surfing in the U.S.
The Women's Pro Surfing (WPS) became the sanctioning body for the World Tour in conjunction with the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals). Debbie Beacham, who became the world champion while riding this very board, continued her involvement in the sport. In 1983, the ASP was founded, with Debbie serving as one of its founding members and acting as the women's representative until 1991.
This board holds historical significance not only for its shaper, Barnfield, but also for its association with Debbie Beacham's world championship victory and her instrumental role in advancing women's professional surfing.
