Description"Le Tour du Monde--Voyage Aux Iles Sandwich", December 1873, Librairie Hacbetie, Paris
This 60 page article in French on the "Sandwich Islands", later called Hawaii, contained a number of copper plate engraved images created by different popular engraving artists in Paris in the 1870s. These are two surfing images in the article. Each is titled "Hawaiians Playing" and each is done without the artist actually seeing surfing. Rather, each is based on the artist's interpretation of his discussion about surfing with the author.
