DescriptionDon Hansen’s surfing career started in Del Mar in 1955. He was a top tandem competitor and all-around surfer, having competed up and down the west coast, Hawaii, and Peru. He was active in the United States Surfing Association and was a member of the board of directors of the World Surfing Championships in San Diego. Hansen began making his own surfboards in Hawaii in 1960. In 1961, he worked for a California surfboard manufacturer and began to plan his own manufacturing business. He opened his business in Cardiff-by-the-Sea that same year. Hansen was a top promoter and wisely signed many of the top professionals of the day. Team members like Mike Doyle, Rusty Miller, L.J.
