DescriptionTwo Engravings: "Surf Bathing - Success" and "Surf Bathing - Failure". Mark Twain visited Hawaii in 1866 as a reporter for the Sacramento Daily Union and this is his description of surfing. The engravers of these images are unknown and based on Twain's description of surfing as the book has numerous engravings showing Twains travels. The engravings are on each side of a double sided page so it takes the same page from two books to display both images.
