DescriptionFrank Leslies Illustrated Newspaper included large engravings and short articles. This image from 1866 is not signed and is one of the largest surfing engravings produced in the 1800s. The engraving shows women surfing with paipo/bellyboards as well as swimming in the waves. While the outline of Diamond Head is faintly shown int he background, the cliff face shown is not located anywhere near Diamond Head.On View
