DescriptionBobby Patterson, and his brothers Ronald and Raymond were originally from Honolulu, Hawaii and moved to Southern California in the 1950s. All three lived in the Laguna Beach/Dana Point area and worked at the Hobie Surfboards factory. Although this board has a Velzy & Jacobs logo and was shaped at Velzy & Jacobs, it was glued together at the Hobie factory because they had better glue available. All three brothers passed away at relatively young ages. Bobby Patterson glued up small Balsa wood strips, and shaped this board in the Velzy shop. These strips of wood were used to protect larger shipments of wood from being damaged by the metal bands that were used to keep the bundles together. This board has a pig shape with balsa strips, a blue/red oval decal that says “Surf Boards by Velzy & Jacobs,” and a glassed-on fin.
