DescriptionThis is an early 1940’s board made in La Jolla before the discovery of fiberglass and resin. Not many balsa boards from this period have survived because when unsealed, balsa will take on water like a sponge when dinged. During this period, shapers tried to make boards lighter by using mostly balsa and less redwood. However, not being able to protect the soft balsa wood was a huge dilemma. After the war, around 1947, fiberglass and resin came into being and solved this problem. This board features twin redwood stringers and a tail block, but no fin. It was resin finished by Don Stewart around 2000. The board has a plank shape and is made from solid balsa with a redwood tail block.
