DescriptionDale Velzy, a giant in the industry, had made thousands of surfboards under his last name. However, in the early 1960's he lost the use of his name and was forced to make a few boards using the letter "V" for his last name in the logo. Another company at this time was producing a line of surfboards, utilizing the Velzy name, even though Dale had nothing to do with the production of these boards. He later was able to get his name back, turning out a limited number of recreations of classic surfboards in the hardwoods. He began with hand-crafted boards in balsa, redwood and mahogany. This balsa wood and foam board demonstrates an interesting combination of materials during the period when balsa was on it’s way out and the use of foam was becoming more common. Velzy was one of the holdouts, preferring the shaping of wood over polyurethane. This board has a balsa center, narrow foam rails, 4 redwood stringers (.75" & .25" offsets), and clear pin. It has a wood laminated fin. This board is very unique.
