DescriptionThis early North Shore board provides an intriguing glimpse into experimental efforts to move away from the solid redwood construction. In an attempt to reduce weight, the redwood material was hollowed out, and ribs were introduced (evidenced by grooves designed to secure them in place). To complete the deck, a thin sheet of Koa wood was affixed. This illustrates the fact that early attempts besides those of Blake were attempted as a means of lightening up the extreme heaviness of the boards typically associated with this era.
