DescriptionFrom a letter to Bob Wengert: "Dale [Velzy] (based on his shaping experiences and seeing a lot of boards in his day) said [the] board was originally of solid redwood and with no skeg. It was built in the islands in 1935-1940. He called it a 'Hot Curl' board. Dale figured when the board came to the mainland (probably after the war) the center section was cut out and cross-cutted to form ribs for the plywood top and bottom. The skeg was added at this time.
