DescriptionThe Hot Curl is the predecessor of the big wave gun. This board was most likely cut down from a hollowed redwood plank board. The Hot Curl’s rounded vee-bottom shape in the tail allowed it to ride much higher on larger waves without sliding out. The Hot Curl was popular for nearly two decades, mostly on the North Shores of Hawaii since California waves were much more forgiving to ride for the most part. Rather than build new boards with this shape, most Hot Curl boards were cut down from planks or Waikiki-style boards. This also helped to lighten the boards to a great degree, down to as little as 35 lbs.On View
