DescriptionAs shipping lines started to frequent Hawaii, redwood became more plentiful since it was being imported for various uses (including ship repair). This is currently the oldest board in our collection. It has a pear shape and is solid redwood. There is 1 butterfly joint on deck and 2 on the bottom; there is no fin. It was made around 1900, and this is one of the oldest solid redwood boards made in Hawaii. It has a totally flat deck with slight rounding at the bottom; there are butterfly joints to stop any splitting. There were no fins on any of these early boards.
