DescriptionBing Copeland has been one of California’s most prolific manufacturers for nearly five decades. He is well known for his craftsmanship and innovative “model” boards such as the "David Nuuhiwa Noserider,” Donald Takayama models, and Dick Brewer "Pipeliners.” His adjustment to the transition from longboards to shortboards was one of the best of major manufactures of the time. He was well represented in the islands; first at Surf Line Hawaii and later with his own distribution outlet at the International Surf Center. Still producing boards today, Bing continues the tradition of quality and contemporary designs. There is a book written by Paul Holmes on the history of Bing Surfboards. This board represents the trend in surfboard design that was later adopted in the early part of the 1970s and would be considered a good example of a transitional board that made the cut. 18 year-old Rolf Aurness won the 1970 World Contest in Australia on a similar but shorter (6’10”) version of this board. This Bing Foil, foam board has a .125” center stringer. It has a logo decal that reads “The Foil,” blue pin stripes and a clear bottom. Its serial number is 5185.
