DescriptionGary Propper - hailing from Cocoa Beach, Florida - won the 1966 East Coast Surfing Championships and was the top-paid surfer of the day. The Gary Propper signature model surfboard, made by Hobie Surfboards, was introduced in 1966; it was one of the world’s best-selling models. It is estimated that perhaps half of the 6,000 boards made by Hobie in 1967 were Gary Propper models, and almost all were sold on the East Coast. This board is the Gary Propper "Nose Rider" model. It is clear, and has a red foam reverse T-band and red pinstripe. It is serial #68155. It has a Hobie removable fin. This board has never been in the water, and it is a classic example of one of Hobie's most popular model boards made for Gary Propper. This was an East Coast design made for small waves and nose riding. It is an example of the early use of colored, high-density foam and has one of the first removable fins.
