DescriptionPurchased from Samuel Alapai Kahanamoku III (AKA “Bunny”) along with a letter of authenticity. The letter states that this is “one of twenty-eight boards kept at the Waikiki estate of the Kahanamoku family. These ‘planks’ once belonged to the brothers Kahanamoku and were ridden by all of them. The names were placed on the boards not for ownership but rather for identification, so that they could be easily retrieved when a rider would lose his board and it washed up on the beach.” Many of these boards had been reshaped from original huge planks as board designs progressed and were still in use up until as late as 1948.
