DescriptionThis is a solid balsa board. Quality balsa wood was very hard to come by in the 1940's due to aircraft demand, so after the war, old abandoned life rafts made of balsa wood were stripped and the short pieces glued together and shaped into boards. This technique is clearly evident on the board and is an early example of commercial recycling. Recently, this balsa board was completely restored by Danny Brawner at the Hobie factory. It was re-glassed by Brawner and it is very clean; it has small pieces from a military life raft. There is no fin.
